Squid Game - The K-Drama That Will Test Your Trust in Everyone
Recently, I got into this popular Netflix K-Drama called "Squid Game". After watching all 9 episodes of this Survivor-esque series, I gotta say, it's off the rails. I'll delve into an in-depth review of this shortly, but I gotta tell out a brief review of it.
In short, it's awesome, it's fun, and it's so damn crazy. I can't wait for the second season! Now, onto the review!
The Review
"Squid Game" is a Netflix K-Drama that's all about people in debt participating in an all-or-nothing, life-and-death type game where they play Korean street games in order to win a large sum of money. The series shares the same vibe as the "Hunger Games" series and the "Survivor" reality show.
This 9-episode series, which stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, and Wi Ha-joon, is about a group of people in debt risking their lives to play 6 mysterious games to win the ultimate prize of ₩45.6 billion. It was released worldwide last week (November 17, 2021) on Netflix. So if you wanna go check it out for yourself, do it.
Now, my thoughts on this? It's mostly positive! The show may have some of its boring moments, but it mostly consists of fun and thrilling moments. The show's concept may not be original (since it takes cues from the Japanese film "As the God's Will", but I like the show's own take on it by focusing more on the story and characters.
And for the characters? They're pretty well written and there's a mix of lovable and hateable characters. I also like how the sixth episode, which is the turning point of the show, brings out their deeper side, letting us know more about their past personality.
My rating? I give it an 8/10. Like I said, it has its dull moments, but it's a pretty great show, nonetheless. Not only that, I learned some lessons in this show, such as how the direst of situations can bring out the desperation in people. I totally can't wait for a second season!
Well, that's all for now! See you next entry! - JJ
