Invincible: A Season 1 Recap (Part 1)

 

 Now that the first season of Invincible has ended on a brutal, yet fantastic 8th episode, why don't we do a recap for those who have seen it? That way we can experience the entire thing all over again?

BUT! Before we continue, please be aware that this entry will contain major spoilers for the first season of Invincible. If you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you watch it now if you don't want to be disappointed by the spoilers. Now, let's go!

 1. It's About Time

One day, when hulking blue scientists, the Mauler Twins, decided to attack the White House and kill the U.S. President, their plans were thwarted when the Guardians of the Globe and Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson) responded to the crisis. Nolan's son, Mark Grayson, who is still waiting for his superhuman powers to emerge, goes to school. He would then defend a fellow classmate, Amber Bennett, from a bully named Todd. After getting beaten up by Todd, Amber would then save Mark and soon develop an interest in him.
 Later in the evening, while Mark was taking out the garbage at a fast-food burger chain he worked at, his powers started to surface. He would then tell his parents about his powers after work while they ate dinner. Despite Nolan being uncertain about Mark's powers, he decided to train Mark in how to use his newfound strength. But because Nolan wanted to teach Mark the severity of being a superhero, he unintentionally punches Mark too hard. Wanting to blow off some steam, Mark decides to stop a bank robbery wearing a makeshift outfit. After a pep talk from his father, Mark was then brought to his father's tailor, Art Rosenbaum, to make a proper superhero suit for him. Mark would then initially give himself the superhero alias "Invincible".
During the post-credits, Omni-Man would set up a fake emergency meeting to gather the Guardians of the Globe in one place and proceed to kill them all. He blacked out soon after from the injuries he sustained from their counterattacks.

2. Here Goes Nothing

While investigation on the Guardians' death went underway, a comatose Nolan was nursed by the Global Defense Agency inside a secret hospital, though they failed to revive the Guardians of the Globe. Mark and his mother, Debbie Grayson, both devastated at what happened to Nolan and the Guardians, went to visit Nolan in the hospital after being informed by the GDA's director, Cecil Stedman, about what happened.
Meanwhile, a group of extradimensional warmonger aliens called the Flaxans attacked Earth. With the help of Teen Team (Robot, Atom Eve, Rex Splode, and Dupli-Kate), Mark was able to stop the Flaxans from conquering Earth, for now, due to them mysteriously aging. Soon after, Robot was able to figure out the reason why the Flaxans retreated was due to the time dilation difference between the Flaxans' home planet and Earth. When Mark recognizes a fellow classmate, Samantha Eve Wilkins, as Atom Eve, they share their superhero identities and become friends at school.
The Flaxans would then return to Earth with anti-aging technology, but unsurprisingly, Invincible and Teen Team defeated them once again after finding out their weakness. Again, the Flaxans return. This time, they finally managed to render themselves immune to Earth's time stream. Although they nearly succeeded, the Flaxans were thwarted when Omni-Man forces them back to their homeworld, where Nolan would proceed to destroy a majority of the planet before returning as news breaks out of the Guardians' death. Meanwhile, Mark would skirmish with Allen the Alien to test Earth's defense capabilities for the Coalition of Planets. Unfortunately, Mark tells Allen that he got the wrong planet, as Allen was searching for a similar-sounding planet called Urath. 
Darkblood would then discover that the killer of the Guardians of the Globe was among one of the heroes.

3. Who You Calling Ugly?

Soon after a televised funeral, the Graysons attend the Guardians' funeral along with their loved ones, where Nolan is privately questioned by Darkblood and hints at his suspicion towards him. 
Cecil would proceed to commission Robot to pick members for the new Guardians of the Globe and lead them, given how he led the defense against the invading Flaxans. So, Robot would merge Teen Team (Dupli-Kate and Rex Splode) with the new recruits (Black Samson, Monster Girl, and Shrinking Rae) to form the roster of the new Guardians of the Globe. However, after learning about her ex-boyfriend, Rex Splode, being in the roster of the New Guardians, Atom Eve immediately declines a spot in the Guardians of the Globe after catching him cheating on her with Dupli-Kate.
After Mark gets Amber's cellphone number, their "study date" gets interrupted when the GDA dispatch him and Eve to Mount Rushmore to stop Doc Seismic from wreaking havoc. Despite this, Amber still stays for their date. After Rex fails to apologize to Eve for cheating on her, Eve seeks out Mark, only for her to discover him and Amber together. She leaves unnoticed.
With Robot's unseen help, the Mauler Twins manage to escape prison, though one of them gets killed. The remaining twin states that he can always make a new clone.

4. Neil Armstrong, Eat Your Heart Out

Angry at the fact that the GDA hasn't caught the Guardians' killer yet, Olga, Red Rush's widow, commissions Debbie to sell her house so she can return to her homeland of Moscow. Cecil asks Nolan to accompany astronauts on a mission to Mars. However, Nolan refuses, given his responsibilities on Earth. Fortunately, Mark volunteers. After having said goodbye to Amber, Invincible heads off into space. Despite a successful landing on the red planet's surface, Mark's inattentiveness would result in the astronauts getting captured by the Martians. The Martian Emperor would order execution on the astronauts to prevent parasitic Sequids from reaching Earth. Because of this, Mark would hastily escape with the astronauts, unaware that a Martian has replaced one of them.
Meanwhile, Nolan and Debbie would try to rekindle their relationship as they went on a trip to Rome.
Cecil finds out that Nolan killed the Guardians, but he couldn't act on it unless he finds out the latter's motives. Knowing that Darkblood will not drop the case, he decides to banish him to hell, unaware that the detective hid his notepad in Debbie's closet.
While the surviving Mauler would make a clone of himself, Robot monitors his progress and methods before stealing a vial of Rex Splode's DNA and presenting it to his real self, the deformed body of Rudolph Connors.
