My Bizarre Journey Through [The World] of JoJo
What is JoJo?
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a shounen written by Hirohiko Araki and published weekly on the manga publishing platform, Shounen Jump. It features 8 parts that each have different stories and protagonists. The basic premise of these parts? They're both bizarre.
I discovered this anime/manga in late 2019. Once I discovered it, I could never back out of it, due to how awesome the story is and how unique the art style is. Now, let me tell you all about these parts while giving out less spoilers as possible. Let's go!
Part 1 - Phantom Blood
Let's start this thing off with the first part of the series, Phantom Blood. This part is set in the early-to-late 1880s. The prologue of the story starts with Dio Brando, the series' main antagonist, being adopted by George Joestar in order to pay off a debt from Dio's late father, Dario Brando, for saving his life in a carriage wreck (even though Dario assumed that George was already dead and was trying to steal precious items from him). Because of the misfortune Dio was given in his early life, Dio had to do whatever it takes to seize the Joestar fortune. However, Dio's plans were cut short when George's son, Jonathan Joestar, discovered him trying to poison his father. Not only that but JoJo (which is Jonathan's nickname. Don't forget that all future JoJos after Jonathan share this nickname) also uncovered evidence of Dio poisoning his father. Dio then resorts to using an ancient stone mask being studied by Jonathan to reject his humanity and turn him into a vampire and proceeds to set his sights on world domination. Shortly after this incident, Jonathan proceeded to seek the help of a street thug whose life he spared, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, and an Italian named Will A. Zeppeli, a master of a supernatural fighting technique known as Hamon, to stop Dio's plans.
Part 2 - Battle Tendency
Now, let's move on to the second part, Battle Tendency. This time, the part's protagonist is Joseph Joestar, the grandson of Jonathan Joestar. It takes place wayyyy after Phantom Blood, which is the year 1939, the same year the Second World War started. Joseph teams up with the grandson of Jonathan's Hamon coach, Caesar A. Zeppeli, another Hamon coach named Lisa Lisa, and a German soldier named Rudol von Stroheim to stop ancient demigods known as the Pillar Men from attaining perfection and taking over the world.
Part 3 - Stardust Crusaders
The 3rd part of the series, Stardust Crusaders, is a lot different from the 2 previous parts. Instead of using Hamon to fight enemies, the protagonists now use a spiritual entity that manifests themselves standing next to their user, hence the ability's name, Stand.
The 3rd part takes place in 1989, with the protagonist being Jotaro Kujo, the grandson of Joseph Joestar. Jotaro has arranged for him to be arrested by the police due to him believing that he has been possessed by an evil spirit, when in fact, his Stand, Star Platinum, has awakened. Because of this, Joseph (Stand Name: Hermit Purple) and his assistant, Muhammad Avdol (Stand Name: Magician's Red), have to assist his daughter and Jotaro's mother, Holly Kujo, to persuade Jotaro to get out of jail. Shortly after, Holly suddenly falls ill due to her Stand awakening. This was the work of DIO, who has awakened from his century-long sleep after defeating Jonathan Joestar and has awakened the spiritual powers from within the Joestars. With the help of a student named Noriaki Kakyoin (Stand Name: Hierophant Green), a Frenchman named Jean Pierre Polnareff (Stand Name: Silver Chariot), and a Boston Terrier named Iggy (Stand Name: The Fool), they work together to stop DIO and the mercenaries sent to stop them.
Well, that's all I have for you guys. Even though there are still 5 more parts I haven't mentioned, I feel that it's up to you guys to look through them for yourselves. After all, the bizarre journey through this world is worth it!
