Invincible - The Best Animated Superhero Show of the Year
Amazon has just recently started airing another superhero show on their streaming service, Amazon Prime, which is the same company that also worked on other great superhero shows such as The Tick and The Boys. And you know what, this time it's animated! Not only that, but it has more graphic violence than The Boys had. The show's name? Invincible.
Invincible is an adaptation of the comic of the same name which was co-created by Robert Kirkman, who also worked on The Walking Dead series and various comics such as Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics.
The show is about a high-schooler named Mark Grayson, who is the offspring of Debbie and Nolan Grayson. His father, Nolan, is a Viltrumite sent to Earth to protect it. He goes by the superhero name of Omni-Man. His father occasionally collaborates with Earth's top superheroes, the Guardians of the Globe (Immortal, War Woman, Darkwing, Red Rush, Ghost Girl, Aquarus, and Martian Man).
Because of his father being a superhero, Mark wanted to follow in his footsteps. Thanks to him being half Viltrumite, Mark finally received his powers one night. Because of this, Mark can now finally fulfill his dreams of being a superhero! But! Mark has to receive superhero training from his father before he can become a fully-fledged superhero!
My verdict on this show? Despite not being Marvel or DC content (Invincible was released under Image Comics, the same comic book franchise that also worked on Kick Ass), it's actually great, to be quite honest. The interesting storyline, characters, good balance of humor and drama, and intense fight scenes are pure ecstacy. But, if that doesn't entice you, wait until you learn that the show's cast also has cast members from The Walking Dead TV show (That goes for you, TWD fans!), with one example being Steven Yeun, who is playing the show's main character, Mark Grayson a.k.a. Invincible. Not only that, but at the end of the first episode, there's a shocking twist! Anyway, if you guys are interested in watching, a new episode releases every week on Amazon Prime, which is something I can look forward to!
Anyway, ciao! - JJ
